Tee Ball Rules (ages 4 – 6)
Bases: 55 feet Pitching Mound: 35 feet Ball: 10" Softball
All rules will follow Little League. Exceptions are as follows:
- Coaches are responsible for preparing the fields prior to game time
- Home team gets third base dug out
- The only defensive player required to wear a helmet on the playing field will be the catcher to prevent injury in the case of a thrown ball. There will be 5 players on the infield.
- There will be 6 players on the infield all other players will be in the outfield. NO player will sit the bench.
- Out fielders must play 10 feet behind the base line.
- There will be no penalty or other action in the case of a player leaving the game for illness or other commitment. The player will simply be removed from the line up as if she had not been present.
- Each team will bat its complete line up in order throughout the entire game. If player misses turn at bat due to the restroom they will just bat at the end. ALL players bat each inning.
- On deck batters are not allowed
- Each player will have 4 swings to put the ball in play. After the fourth swing coach will assist the player. Note: in play is the ball travels beyond the 10’ circle
- Throwing of the bat is NOT allowed. First offense will result in team warning. A second offense will result in the batter being declared out and the ball declared dead.
- Runners must stay in contact with the base until the ball is hit. There is no penalty for violation of this rule; correct the runner. No base stealing is allowed.
- Batter hit’s the ball in the infield they will only advance to 1st. All runners will only be allowed to advance 1 base.
- Batter hits ball to outfield they can only advance to second. All runners will only be allowed to advance 2 bases.
- A regulation game will consist of either 1hr and 15min or 2 complete innings
- The pitcher must be in contact with the rubber until the ball is hit and no defensive player shall be closer than half the distance of the base line before the ball is hit.
- The inning will end when the offensive team has batted their complete line up. If 3 outs are made clear the bases and continue till complete line up bats
- In the case of bad weather, once the game starts, the team managers will decide to play or not
- Jewelry- NO Jewelry is to be worn at any time during the game
Little League (8U) Rules (ages 7-8)
Bases: 60 feet Pitching Mound: 35 feet Ball: 11" Softball
All rules will follow Little League. Exceptions are as follows:
I. Players
a. Players- Team must start a game with at least 7 players and finish with at least 6 players
b. Players showing up late for a game will be inserted at the end of the batting order.
c. If player cannot complete the game it will be counted as an out each time they are due up to bat. In case of an injury occurring during the game the rule is waved.
d. There will be 10 players on defense. 6 on the infield, 4 in the outfield.
e. The defensive player on the mound must be in the pitcher’s circle until the ball is hit.
f. The outfielders must play on the grass beyond the infield and on the fair side of the foul line
g. Jewelry- NO jewelry can be worn by the players at any time during the game
h. Each team must play all of their players a minimum of 2 innings; NO player can sit more than 1 inning; free substitution. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit (unless game time did not allow for it)
II. Batting
a. Each team will bat its complete line up in order throughout the game
b. On deck batters are not allowed
c. A bunt or a deliberate half swing will count as a missed swing
d. Throwing the bat is not allowed. First offense will result in a team warning. Second offense batter declared out.
e. Batter will receive 5 pitches from the pitching machine. If not put in play batter is out. (No Walks)
III. Game/Field
a. Won games will count for 3 points in standings; Lost games will count for 0 points in standings; A game can end in a tie. Ties will count as 1 point for each team
b. The umpire will have the final decision on delay or calling of a game due to bad weather
c. Both teams are responsible for chalking the infield lines and the pitcher’s circle
d. The home team will occupy the third base dugout
IV. Pitching
a. Team Manager/Coach will pitch to his/her team from the approved spot in the circle. (Machine behind mound plate) The pitch shall be windmill style to place in machine. Umpire to judge if pitching machine needs to be adjusted. Umpire will set speed to 32-35 mph and anyone changing it will be removed from game.
b. The pitching machine coach is not allowed to block the defensive player from getting to a hit ball. If the umpire rules that there was interference the ball is dead and the batter will be declared out.
c. The pitching coach must stay ducked down behind machine and prevent any player from running into it.
d. If the ball contacts the pitching machine the ball is dead batter will advance to first others runners will only advance if forced.
e. The pitching coach may not talk to the batter. Show ball and start pitching motion. The pitching coach is not allowed to coach base runners.
V. Base Running (base stealing is not allowed)
a. There will be a maximum of 4 runs per inning or 3 outs whichever comes first.
b. Runners must stay in contact with the base until the ball is hit. If player leaves the base early the ball is declared dead and the base runner will be out.
c. Runners may only advance till ball is in circle or lead runner is stopped.
d. Once ball is in the circle all runners must stop, if less that is ½ way will return to previous base.
Minor (10U) (ages 9 - 10)
Bases: 60 feet Pitching Mound: 35 feet Ball: Minors- 11" Fastpitch Softball
All rules will follow Little League. Exceptions are as follows:
I. Players
a. Players- Teams must start a game with at least 7 players, and finish with at least 6 players.
b. Players showing up late for a game will be inserted at the end of the batting order.
c. If a player cannot complete the game it will be counted as an out each time they are due up to bat. In the case of an injury occurring during the game this rule is waived.
d. There will be 10 players on defense, 6 on the infield, and 4 in the outfield
e. The outfielders must play on the grass beyond the infield evenly spaced and on the fair side of the foul line.
f. Jewelry- NO jewelry can be worn by the players at any time during the game
g. Each team must play all of their players a minimum of 2 innings; NO player can sit more than 1 inning; free substitution. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit (unless game time did not allow for it)
II. Batting
a. Each team will bat it complete line up, in order, throughout the entire game.
b. No walks. If the pitcher throws 4 balls the batter will get one swing off the tee to put the ball into play. If the batter misses the ball the batter is out.
c. On-deck batters are not allowed in Minors or Majors.
d. Throwing the bat is not allowed. First offense will result in a team warning; Second offense batter will be declared out.
e. There is no run on dropped 3rd strike in the minors; this starts in Majors and up only
f. No pinch or courtesy runners will be allowed. In the case of an injury occurring during the game this rule will be waived. The last runner out may be substituted in as a runner.
III. Base Running
a. There will be a maximum of 4 runs per inning or 3 outs, whichever comes first
b. Base runners must stay in contact with the base until the ball crosses the plate. If a player leaves the base early the ball is dead and the runner is out.
c. Both teams are responsible for chalking the infield lines and the pitcher's circle
d. Home Team: The home team will occupy the third base dugout and keep the official score book.
IV. Game
a. Games will last 1hr 15min- Complete inning unless non winnable with run rule
b. Won games will count for 3 points in standings; Lost games will count for 0 points in standings; A game can end in a tie. Ties will count as 1 point for each team.
c. The umpire will have the final decision on delaying or calling a game due to bad weather.
